How Much Can Solar Save You?

Meralco nowWith solar₱10,000₱1,000up to 90% off

The number one question every Filipino homeowner asks is simple: how much will I actually save? The honest answer is that a well-sized solar system can cut a typical Meralco bill by 70–90% — but the exact figure depends on how much power you use during the day and how big a system you install.

Where the savings come from

During daylight, your panels power your home directly. Every kilowatt-hour (kWh) you generate and use yourself is a kWh you don't buy from Meralco at the full retail rate — roughly ₱11–₱13 per kWh in Metro Manila. That self-consumed energy is where most of your savings come from.

Anything your panels produce that you don't use right away is exported to the grid. Under net metering you get a credit for it, but at a lower rate than what you pay to buy power back. That's why using power during the day — running the aircon, washing machine, or pool pump at noon instead of midnight — stretches your savings further.

A realistic example

Take a home paying ₱10,000 a month. A right-sized system might bring that down to around ₱1,000–₱3,000 — the small remainder being your night-time and rainy-day usage drawn from the grid. Over a year, that's roughly ₱84,000–₱108,000 back in your pocket.

Be cautious of quotes promising a flat 100% elimination of your bill. Unless you add enough battery storage to cover every night, you'll still draw some power from the grid after dark. An honest estimate accounts for that.

What changes your number

  • Daytime vs night-time usage — more daytime use means more savings.
  • System size (kWp) — bigger arrays offset more, up to your roof and usage limits.
  • Battery storage — lets you use solar power at night instead of buying it back.
  • Your Meralco rate — higher rates make solar pay off faster.
The bottom line

Most homes save 70–90% on their monthly bill. The only way to know your number is to size a system against your actual usage — try our free calculator with your latest bill.
